Pre-assessment of Student Knowledge: Students accept been immersed in a unit on Historical Fiction and have explored different time periods, people, culture and language. The majority of students are writing and reading fluently. Five students struggle with comprehension.

(B)Students were able to accurately complete a 1000-Westward-L Chart on life in New York Urban center from the time of the book to nowadays twenty-four hour period. This includes forms of transportation, jobs, and communication.

Objectives:

Thinking Objective: Students will be able to compare and dissimilarity life in current and old New York City.

Mastery Objective: Students will explain/depict how life has changed in New York City. Students will understand the important of immigration. Students will sympathize the hardships of clearing.

Procedure

Introduction and Motivation:

Read aloud of Peppe the Lamplighter. Explain to the children that this story takes place in a fourth dimension where many people were struggling and had to accept their children find jobs to help back up the family unit. Tell the students that this story is about a male child named Peppe and how he tried to help take care of his 5 sisters and his sick father. Have the students wonder what life would be like for them if they had to get find work.

Essential Questions

How do you recollect your community and the metropolis of New York have inverse over time?

What would information technology be like to alive in a time when there was no electricity?

Why did Peppe's family come up to America?

Why was Peppe's begetter upset about Peppe'south job?

Activities:
